How To Treat Swelling In Neck, Legs And Feet Along With Frequent Urination?

I have recently developed a swelling on the left side of my neck. It is a bit tender and also causes ache just below the skull above the swelling. Prior to the neck swelling, about a year ago, I also developed swelling in both legs and feet and it is quite severe now. I have also prostate problems, having to urinate 5-6 times during the night and not being able to fully empty the bladder. I am 79 years old and otherwise healthy and I don t take any prescription medicine and always eat healthy food, I don t smoke. Kind regards,- Paul Larsen

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello,
i can understand your concern.
the swelling in your neck seems to be an enlarged lymph node. since it is tender it is mostly a reactive lymph node due to an infection which can be as simple as dandruff. this can be treated with a course of antibiotics.
regarding history of swelling of bot the lower limbs, was it properly evaluated ?
is there any history of kidney disease in you???
being a 79 yr old, the problem of prostatomegaly is quite common. an ultrasound would be required to know the size of the enlargement.
a screening test for prostrate cancer PSA is also to be done.
based on the findings if it is benign either medical management with drugs like tamsulosin should be started or a TURP surgery done.
kindly get a complete urine examination done along blood urea and serum creatinine done to rule out a
presence of kidney disorders.
kindly consult your physician for a thorough examination which is required in your case.
hope i have answered your concerns.
feel free to ask further questions.
thanks for choosing HCM.
