How To Treat Swollen And Painful Knee With History Of Knee Surgery?

My left knee hurts all the time, resting it does not cause the pain to go away. Many years ago I had surgery to this knee and I believe they cleaned up some cartilage damage. Sometimes when I go to step it does not bear my weight. It stays swollen. I cannot bend it much nor can I get down on my knees.

Hello,

Since you have already had some surgery for that knee and the pain and swelling are back, in such a situation it is better to consult the orthopedist who had done the earlier surgery. If he is not available then please consult another specialist. Trying to treat yourself is not a good option. There is a need to assess the joint properly and then decide on treatment. So please do visit the specialist. In the mean time you may use a NSAID like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac for for temporary pain and inflammation relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
