Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter plays volleyball, and she hurt her thumb while slamming a volleyball headed straight for her head. The base of her thumb, down towards her wrist was swollen and bruised. She iced it and took ibuprofen. A week later, the swelling went down, and the bruising began to fade. So she tried to play volleyball again but couldn t. She says that it hurt to hit the ball, and then it swelled up again. How do we know if it is just a sprain or if she actually did some damage to the bone or ligaments in her thumb? She has a volleyball scholarship for college and has to report to campus by July 30th. What do you suggest?
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern, soft tissue inflammation is very likely condition but beside this fracture part and damage of other structure need to be investigated and for all of this better to see the orthopedic surgeon, hope this information helps, take care and have a nice day.
