Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi there, my 5 year old daughter's lower lip is mostly swollen from centre to left side now. She had gone to the dentist for a filling of her 2 molars, and had bitten on her numb lip thereafter. Today, seems worse than yesterday. I already told her to stop biting the lip, but a bit late. She went to school today, and is not feeling any pain or discomfort. Should I wait another day before heading to the pediatrician with her?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that your daughter has bitten her lips recurringly as the lip was numb due to local anaesthesia and it has led to inflammation of the soft tissues leading to swelling secondary to accumulation of inflammatory exudate.. You need not to worry as it does not seems to be anything serious and the swelling will resolve soon.. You can give her anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.. Do cool compresses over her lip.. You can wait for 3 to 4 days and if symptoms worsen consult her treating Pedodontist and get her evaluated and a she can look for other causes of swelling like Allergies.
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
