How To Treat Swollen Tailbone?

I have a swollen tailbone and the swelling continues down the inside of one of my buttocks. It's extremely painful and the doctors practice is shut until Tuesday. Do you know what the cause maybe? Also can you advise myself on how not to aggravate the damage, but rather create the best conditions for heeling to occur?
