How To Treat Temper Tantrums In A Child?

12 yr old boy, temper tantrums, declining school performance, became worse when entered middle school, teachers report he is intellectually able to do the work but lacks the ability to make friends, mistrust peers that try to be nice, but trusts the ones he shouldn t because they feign interest in toys he brings to school. teachers report he cries in school and rarely speaks in class, yells at peers but teahers believe he may be responding to provocation, when interviewed alone the child was nonresponsive or mumbled when asked questions about school, when asked about his toy cars he talked non-stop and named each car appropriately, still not making good eye contact, admitted kids whispered bad words in his ears in class that made him yell out in class, and when in the hall they screamed in his hears and he states he hates loud noises, said he wanted to run away but decided to run away to his room instead, he spoke at 11 months of age, short sentences by 3 yrs, mother states he takes thngs to literally, says his father is odd as well, speech is coherent and goal directed but at times stumbles over his words or parts of words, and paused excessively.

Psychologist 's  Response
Hello,

Temper tantrums are unpleasant and disruptive behaviors or emotional outbursts. They often occur in response to unmet needs or desires.

Tantrums are more likely to occur in younger children or others who cannot express their needs or control their emotions when they are frustrated.

Understanding the child's behavior is essential. This is an acquired behavioral disorder and therefore behavior therapy is essential.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
