How To Treat The Swollen Area In Hand Caused By IV Insertion?
14 days after i gave birth by cs, i noticed a swollen vein on the back of my left wrist and it hurts. I think i got it from the iv that made my hand swell that it (IV) had to be pulled out and reinserted on my right hand. Is this something i have to be worried about? Do i need to visit a doctor immediately?
Welcome to Healthcare magic I am Dr Fahim and I will help you with your health query
I have gone through your question and understood your concerns. It is one of the commonest complications of intravenous (IV) cannula insertion. It appears to be thrombophlebitis, which is inflammation of vessel due to formation of blood clots because of some irritants, in your case IV cannula is the irritant. It is not a serious condition and you need not to worry much about it. You can use Aspirin, which will not only help with the pain rather it will help in eliminating the cause of it as it have both anti-inflammatory and anti-platelets properties. Local steroid agents along with ice sponging will also help. I have this resolves in matter of days and you will be alright soon. Wishing you rapid recovery.
I hope my answer will help you. Do rate it, if you like it. Regards
