How To Treat Throat Pain After Experiencing Choking Sensation While Eating?
My daughter swalled a piece of candy about 2 hours ago. Thought she was choking and she was terrified. I think it got stuck but eventually went down. Now she is complaining her throat still hurts. Could the candy be stuck in her lungs. Do i need to take her to the ER? She is 6 yrs old
Understanding your concern. As per your query your daughter is experiencing throat pain after experiencing choking sensation while eating which could be due to granular pharyngitis. It could be due to formation of lump, gastroesophageal reflux disease and contraction of muscle sphincters. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles 2-3 times a day. You should avoid heavy and spicy food specially at night and eat small and frequent meals. You should do betadine gargles as well. Consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order test like blood test , throat swab test , endoscopy and CT scan. From diagnostic studies exact diagnosis can be made out. Need not to panic about it. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics course, anti inflammatory medications or refer you to gastroenterologist .
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
