How To Wean Off Laxative Dependency Used For Severe Constipation And Water Retention?
i am trying to recover from laxative dependency. I suffer severe water retention (i will gain 10-20lbs in a matter of days if I do not take laxatives) and severe constipation. This water retention severelky hurts to the point i cannot walk. I want a schedule to wean myself off but need guidance. I have been using duolax for about 6 years about 200 a day now. I use to use more but I am trying to get off. Any help is appreciated.
Long term dependency of laxatives make the GI functional aspects greatly hampered and disturbed.
There should be a schematic follow up to taper the dose under the guidance of expert consultant surgeon for best results, here are some helpful handy information
- sudden quitting of laxative is hazardous for intestine and general body system
- gradual dose tapering is recommended
- addition of bulk-forming laxative with non habit forming properties as well as GI prokinetic agents as levosulpiride, digestive enzymes with natural herbs are must as adjoining supporters
- many cases require behavior therapy, counselling sessions with psychiatrist and supportive psychiatric medicines as well
- plenty of liquids will be the key factor here.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
