Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has been on Epilim for a few years the Neurologist has told me to take her off it slowly but I have mislaid the instructions on how to reduce it slowly I know it needs to be done slowly She is on 400mg in the morning and 400m at night If you could help me I would appreciate it
Hi Hope your daughter is fine now and hasnt had any seizure episodes. Epilim is a potent antiepileptic and needs to be tabpered and stopped or she will have withdrawal symptoms. It can be tapered only after (and this is important) 2-4 years of disease free interval. It should be tapered to 25% less every 2 weeks i.e, 300mg twice daily for 2 weeks, 200mg twice daily for 2 weeks, 150mg twice daily for 2 weeks, 100 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, 100 mg once daily for 2 weeks and stop. this is the standard regimen followed usually.
