Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am wondering if my going on and off of my regular Adderall prescription this month (that I have been on for the past 4 years) because of travel and vacations could have effected the ruptured ovarian cyst that I experienced when I returned, and the fact that I had two separate periods in two weeks. I saw my gynecologist after it happened, who performed a sonogram and ultrasound, diagnosed me with a ruptured ovarian cyst, and did blood work and assured me it was a common-and random- issue that would heal on its own. I seem to be healing fine but have stayed off my Adderall.
Adderall (Amphetamine/dextroamphetamine) is highly unlikely to affect the menstrual cycle. Though there are some patient reports of interference, there are no published literature that states about the association. This would well mean that many of them as your doctor suggested in your case a random occurrence unrelated to Adderall intake. As you have been taking Adderall for 4 years, I would suggest you to keep your physician in loop on whether to stop or continue the medication. Abruptly stopping is not desirable as it can cause withdrawal symptoms or flare up the previous symptoms. Do consult your prescribing physician before taking a call on Adderall. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic. Have a wonderful day.
