How To Withdraw From Carbamazepine?

My sodium level is 123. My doctor wants me to stop taking Carbamazepine which is causing it?Can I stop cold turkey? What do I do about pain? I also take baclofen and cymbalta but they do nothing.Will that raise my sodium level.?In the meantime the pain will increase. I have trigeminal neuralgia.I nneed to talk to a neurologist

Hi,

Yes, Carbamazepine can cause low sodium. However it should not be stopped abruptly.

You should gradually taper the dose and stop it in 1 to 2 weeks. There are other medications that can help your pain.

Your neurologist may better advise about this.
