How To Withdraw From Imuran?

I have RA. My Dr ordered a viatra test & the no came back 20. I did not do well on methotrexate so he started me on Imuran. I quit that as well. I was getting migraine aura & other terrible side effects. I don t have any deformity. I am considering just trying healthy diet & quit these drugs. I exercise & don t have much pain. Would it be ok to stop medications?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello there. I have read your question and would like to tell you that Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease which not only effects your bones but over time other organ s as well like kidney, heart, liver etc. In addition it may increase the destruction of joints and lead to deformities. So I would suggest you to not stop the medications but instead consult your rheumatologist for alternative drugs which will suit you. There are many anti rheumatoid drugs available like hydroxychloroquine, leflunomide salfasalazine etc. You should consult your doctor regarding it. I hope this answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write.
