Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 58yr old female who weighs about 140 and who has been taking pramipexole .25 for about a year and a half for a head tremor. One in the AM, 2 in the PM. My insurance has changed and I can no longer continue to see my neurologist who prescribed this AND I really don t see much improvement so I m wanting to wean myself off the medication.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Pramipexole belongs to the class of medications called non-ergot dopamine agonists. It is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson's disease and moderate-to-severe primary restless leg syndrome. It is advisable to take the medication as prescribed and not to stop taking such medications without proper medical supervision as it could worsen your underlying condition. Hence, kindly consult your doctor before taking such decisions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran. S.
