How To Withdraw From Tamsulosin?

I have taking Tamsulosin for three weeks. It was prescribed for 4 weeks. Will I suffer any adverse effects if I stop taking it without tapering, and then discussing with my doctor 2 weeks later? I have read comments about not stopping without tapering but assume that is for long term use?

Hello,

Tamsulosin drug plays a role in altering the way your cardiovascular system is functioning. While you may or may not have had side effects while starting the drug, abruptly stopping the drug is known to cause side effects that can be very uncomfortable and unsafe even.

Even three weeks use, gets the drug to have a steady concentration in your blood stream. In my opinion, you should definitely taper it off gradually, under the supervision of your doctor.

Hence, my advice is that you continue the dose you are on till you see your doctor two weeks down the line and then start tapering it with him in the loop.

Are there any specific side effects because of which you want to stop the drug?

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
