How Unsafe Is Low Sugar Level For A Baby With Enlarged Liver And Heart?

I have a client who just had a baby. The baby girl has an enlarged liver and heart. Her sugar is also low. I was told that they can t hold the baby yet and that she is on antibiotics , her lungs are responding and she may be in the hospital a few weeks. My client has disabilities and isn t the best at understanding/explaining these types of things. Any thoughts on what this could be?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern and would explain that her symptoms could be related to a metabolic disorder (thyroid gland dysfunction, an enzymatic deficiency as a genetic disorder, etc..). I would like to review her blood lab tests for a more professional opinion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
