Hi. My partner works full time, but drinks vodka on an evening that totals to around 100 units of vodka per week. How will this be effecting his body? I get really worried,he doesn't ever drink during the day, just a lot of vodka in an evening. Would you class him as an alcoholic?
Going by the amount and frequency of vodka you have mentioned, your partner definitely seems to be alcohol dependent. Drinking such high amounts of alcohol i a dependent manner will only cause him physical, psychological can economical harm. Alcohol can cause impairments like liver disease, heart disease, psychiatric disorders and increases chances of cancer and stroke.
I would suggest, you make him see a psychiatrist as soon as possible. Investigation will be needed to evaluate his cardiac and liver status. It will be advisable that he is started on medication while quitting so as to prevent withdrawal symptoms which can be very dangerous as such. Further treatment with anti-craving drugs can then be considered.
Best wishes.
