Hurts To Breathe Deeply, Dry Coughing. Worried

Hello, My wife has been having this problem since more than a year now and it bothers me. She is never able to breathe deep. If she has a deep breathe, then it results in heavy dry coughing for over 5 minutes before she comes back to normal. The cough does not seem like a food choking cough. It sounds more like a cough from the lungs, like when you have bronchitis or similar. Is this anything i should be really worried about?

Pulmonologist 's  Response
Hi,
Cough can be produced due to may reasons like lung disorders (asthma, interstitial lung disease, tuberculosis etc);upper airway disorders;GERD etc.
Your wife is suffering from cough for last 1 year and it episodic so asthma came first to my mind but it may be due to upper airway cogh syndrome or GERD.
Spirometry can tell whether your wife has asthma or not.
You should consult a pulmonologist for the diagnosis and management of your wifes cough.
