General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
You should take this medicine as advised by your doctor.
Low dose aspirin reduces platelet stickiness and helps people avoiding stroke who are suffering from hypertension.
Thanks

General & Family Physician Dr. Michelle Gibson James's  Response
Hi,welcome to healthcare magic

Different organisations have varying recommendations regarding the use of aspirin but in general it is recommended in:
(1) persons who have a high calculated 5 or 10 yr risk of a coronary heart disease (the risk is calculated by looking at your age, smoking history, LDL,HDL, family history, hypertension)
(2)it is used in most diabetics especially if there are other risk factors
(3)also recommended in persons who have already had an event to prevent reoccurrence

Aspirin is associated with increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding and the pros and cons must be weighed when starting.
If your doctor has calculated your risk of an event based on the factors mentioned above, it may have indicated that you are at high risk, you should speak to him/her for clarification.

I hope this helps
