Hysterectomy Done, Lower Abdominal Pains After Taking Estradiol, Cyst In Ovary Shrinking. Pain Due To Side Effect?
My 47 year old Daughter had a hysterectomy 3 years ago and is on Estradiol 0.5 , and has been having rather severe lower abdominal pain for at least 3 months... She was told when she had her surgery that she had a cyst on the ovary, but they didn't do anything about it... She went in last week and had a sonogram and was told the cyst has shrunk... Still she has this pain, and seems to think it is caused by the medication she is taking....The Estradiol... Can you tell me if pain is a side effect of this medication???
Hi, Estradiol can cause abdominal pain, but, as the occurrence of this symptom is relatively recent in onset considering the fact that she has been on this medication for the past three years, further investigation is needed. A trans-vaginal sonogram would be better if she had a pelvic sonogram earlier. Ovarian causes need to be excluded and if necessary, medication stopped for sometime to see if the symptoms subside. Please contact her consultant for further suggestions. Hope this helps.
