Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 66 year old female in good health who is contemplating donating a kidney to a 68 year-old friend. However, my 30-year old son was diagnosed in utero with polycystic kidney disease. Upon birth it was discovered 1 kidney was good but the other "looked like a bunch of grapes" and was removed at 1 year old. He has had no problems with the good kidney but has Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, and takes medication for that along with anxiety meds. Would it be too risky for me to give away a kidney when my son may need one of my kidneys in the future? Or would I be considered too old to give my kidney to my son anyway? Thank you. -Marilyn Wilde
