Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 70 years old. My HDL is 77, LDL 108 giving me a total of 200. I do have a genetic condition which causes poor circulation in my legs - just the legs - no heart, etc. I have three stents and my vascular surgeon is very satisfied with my condition. My primary doc put me on statins. I have tried about 6 all of which eventually make me unable to function due to arm pain. I am very active with a 5 acre lawn and a large house and a busy social life. I quit taking the statins about 67 weeks ago and feel so-o-o much better. With them my HDL is still 74 and my LDL is 94, but I don't have a life. I am voting for the trade off. Primary care doc is not. My son's doc states that he (with similar levels) is not a candidate for statins because of genetics. HELP!
