Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 43-year old male who was diagnosed with central and obstructive sleep apnea. The symptoms immediately became present shortly after I had been hospitalized for low sodium and pottassium which resulted from me using Ditropan while training in excessive heat. My potassium level had dropped to 2.4 and my sodium was 119. This occured 10 years ago, and though I have regularly been sensitive to the heat, my main complaint relates to me not breathing when I lay down whether to watch a movie or to go to bed. I find it difficult to breathe. I live in a constant state of exhaustion. My wife who works as a CRNA thinks that the breathing center of my brain could have been damaged when my sodium and potassium levels dropped or that perhaps that I may have some sort of phrenic nerve disorder or paralysis. I regularly find it difficult to take deep breathes. I am a non-smoker, although I was exposed to second hand smoke for the first 20 years of my life. This has truly become debilitating. I do use a CPAP regularly but the symptoms of exhaustion and not breathing persist. Your input is greatly appreciated.
