I am a 52 yr old woman who has suffered from varicose veins for 25+ years, but in the last week I was traveling across the country and received some kind of bug bites in my lower leg about 4 days ago. I am noticing increasing pain in that leg so severe it's becoming harder to tolerate any weight on the leg and the leg and foot are swollen. Between the cross country travel and bug bites right around the area of already distended veins, plus the severity of pain, I'm concerned. What do you suggest and how urgent might this be: can it wait until my PCP office opens Monday? If so, what OTC meds can I take to manage the pain and swelling? My biggest worry is infection, if it is indeed caused by an insect.
