I am a 60yo W/M. I have never been much of a drinker of alcohol nor used IV drugs. I had a blood transfusion in the early 70's in the Army. I have been diagnosed with Hep-C, as of 2001, as well as asbestosis (COPD). Several years later tests show that I have fairly advanced cirrhosis. I was week, holding much fluid weight, and my platelets were EXTREMELY low. I was being evaluated for liver transplant by a Dr. Thuluvath, a gastroenterologist at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore. After numerous attempts to have me placed on Harvoni before trying surgery failed (which he said he would try first-- only transplant as last resort), I stopped seeing him and started searching the internet for alternatives. Since then, I have changed my diet to include vitamin-K & A high foods(along with loading with Vitamin E, A & D vitamins & multivitamins supplements); low to NO salt meals; changed my life style and exercise more regular than before. I have also reduced my Rx medications by about 90% to give my liver a break. 4 years have now passed and flank pain has almost COMPLETELY ceased, I have lost about 30lbs of fluid weight and my platelet counts have increased 8 fold. I have increased energy now and my appetite has increased a lot, but it is hard to eat because of the decay of all my teeth down to the gum line because of the use of inhalers. My question is, would you believe it to be safe to have major dental surgery to remove all the decayed teeth so that I may have dentures are dental implants? Thanks. Robert L.
