Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 70-year old woman. Both of my breasts were removed 6 years ago. I underwent a total hysterectomy more than 30 years ago and both ovaries and tubes were removed 8 years ago. A recent scan showed a mass in my right pelvis. The radiologist interpreting the scan noted that it could be an ovary though the tissue had no characteristics of ovarian tissue. During this same period I was diagnosed with leukocytosis and with Stage 3 CKD. I have Type II diabetes and have also begun to experience angina attributed to spasm of the coronary artery. All of these are being treated but my question is whether, absent all of my female organs, could the mass be cancer? During the diagnostic period that ended with the diagnosis of leukocytosis my right leg became very swollen - about 3 inches larger than the left leg. I was given several rounds of antibiotics that were not directed at the swollen leg but rather at treating the elevated white cell count. While my white cell count did not go down, the antibiotics did result in the elimination of the swelling in my leg. I have since learned that the swelling of my right leg (the mass is located in the right pelvis) could have been a symptom of ovarian cancer. Being a cancer survivor I'd like to know if that is a possibility.
