I Am A 73 Year Old Female (most Guess Me

I am a 73 year old female (most guess me to be mid 50's) and just this week saw signs of vericose veins on the inside of my left calf. Never have had any protruding veins before in my life. Fairly active but do have a surrounding family history of heart disease including my two younger sisters. What causes this?
