I Am A Type 2 Diabetic. My Doctor Has Changed

I am a type 2 diabetic. my doctor has changed my medication to 1000 milligram metformin 2 times a day.
ever since this has happened, my blood sugars keep dropping and I have had to go get sugar pills and orange juice in order to get it up. I just took my sugar and it is 49. when do I need to be worried that I may fall asleep and become in a coma? I have been scared to sleep the past week and I also have a heart condition so I am pretty worried about what may happen with my sugar being so low tonight.
