I am extremely concerned by all the side effects of beta blockers. My primary of many years put me on 5 mg Bistolic about 18 years ago when my husband was dying. I took it for a few months and then just stopped and only took them when I felt overly stressed or "not in control" of my
immediate situation. My 67 year old daughter died this past December and I was again stressed to the max. My primary upped the Bistolic to 10 mg's but in a few days I was feeling not like me at all and my one foot got very swollen. His best advice was to wear elastic stockings That did not suit me AT ALL so I went back to the 5 mgs. though it doesn't take my pressure as low as Drs anymore would like. Mine reads around 145-150 over 80 a few hours after taking a pill. My question is--Is there any similar medication that would better suit me? My electrocardiogram last January (yearly physical) was excellent according to my Geriatric Doc
