I am facing sinus problem since then though it is a occassional problem i am worried about working as a diver in future .i feel pain in all the sinus areas in worst conditions and generally on the eyebrows and the nasal areas i have tried stem inhalation, nasal drops ,few homeopathic, ayurvedic and allopathic medicines but all was of no use please suggest any strong medicine which i can use
Hi Laxman. Im a scuba diver and was having sinusitis for quite some time. Now finally I have got good control. Don't worry u will be able to go diving without suffering from all the pain. its not so much the cold temperature but the pressure changes that causes sinusitis to occur or flare up after diving. I was on a relatively long course of antibiotics to clear out my infection. Since then I have been taking precautions everytime i go diving.Particularly important to avoid diving when you already have sinusitis because that is sure to worsen it. Im sure a good doc will be able top help you. All the best.
you problem can be solved by medicine. consult ENT surgeon get nose examined and see is there any anatomical problem, if there is no problem start steroidnasal spray at least use for 2 to 3 months and do the steam inhalation. and avoid diving when you have acute sinusitis
This is one of the most common problem scuba divers face. You require a thorough examination by a good ENT specialist and the doctor might advice for an x-ray or the CT scan of the sinuses and further treatment. Till then, you can continue with steam inhalations 2-3times/day and drink plenty of warm water.
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE.
DO PROPER STEAM INHALATION, IF POSSIBLE GET A CULTURE AND SENSITIVITY OF WHICH ORGANISM YOU ARE FREQUENTLY INFECTED WITH AND TAKE A COMPLETE COURSE OF ANTIBIOTICS SENSITIVE TO IT. DO THESE PROPHYLACTIC MEASURES BEFORE YOU PLAN TO DIVE.
IF YOU STILL KEEP GETTING RECURRENT INFECTIONS DESPITE BEING ON THESE PROPHYLACTIC MEASURES, I WOULD ADVICE YOU TO GET A FUNCTIONAL ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY DONE, SO THAT YOU WONT HAVE ANY SINUS INFECTIONS AFTER THAT.

I Am Facing Sinus Problem, please Give Me Your Treatment Suggestion
Hello laxman, Thanks for writing your query. Sinusitis is a very common problem seen in underwater divers,it is the pressure change because of which you feel pain while diving. So i would suggest you avoid diving when you already have sinusitis, and consult an ENT specialist and take a course of antibiotic. You can use steam inhalation 3-4 times a day. Nothing to get worried. Take care. Dr. Gunjan Gupta
