I am having Hypertensive spikes/ crisis episodes. I have cardiovascular disease and diabetes, cardiology ruled out heart was causing b/p spikes with a two day hospitalization, including labs, and a heart cath that confirmed my grafted & stented vessels are open. The hypertension is new to me, my blood pressure had been well controlled on total daily dose of Coreg alone. When these spikes come, my abdomen swells rapidly, gets so tight inder my rubs that it is uncomfortable and very loud bowel sounds. I am only eating bites of food. So far, I have had a neg abd cat scan with contrast, neg kidney ultrasound, neg kidney/ abd MRI, neg adrenal hormone studies. My GI doctor ran serum Transgluten IGA Ab, & Total IGA, plus 3 stool studies, all neg. i am having these blood pressure spikes (up to 200's/100's almost daily. My med regime is Coreg 25 mg ( total) per day, Procardia XL 30 mg daily was added the last 15 days, effient, asa, short and long term insulin. I was given Clonidine 0.1 mg to take only with the spikes. So far it has worked in about 30 mins. Yesterday I had an episode that took longer for the pressure to come down after the clonidine. I really feel my belly or esopagus has something to do with this as it is swelling with few bites of food and with the increased b/ p episodes. Do you have any ideas? i don't feel likegoing anywhere....just feel terrible when these spikes come. I have some Hyoscyamine sulfate 0.125 mg, I don't know if it would be safe to take or not.
