I Am Having Brown Mucous Between Periods And Mild Pelvic Pain. Will That Be Cervical Cancer?

Hi I am 49 and have been having some brown mucous between periods for over a year and mild pelvic pain on right side. I had it checked out with pap smear and ultrasound but they found nothing. A few months ago, the brown mucous has got a lot worse and when they did a pap smear and it came back normal but with no endocervical component. I had another pap smear where the gynaecologist took the sample from higher up the cervix and it came back possible HPSIL. Another ultrasound showed a mass in the lower endometrium cavity to the cervix. Then I had a colposcopy and they couldn't seen the transformation zone, but the biopsy they did was normal. I am due to have a D and C at the hospital on 18th September. I'm scared that I have cervical cancer. The doctor's say it could be that or possibly a polyp. What do you think?

Hi and thank you so much for this follow up precision.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. It would be very unlikely to be cervical cancer seen the multiple testings that have been done with no abnormal findings suggestive of that. It takes several years for cervical changes to progress to cancer and you are no where near there. My advice would be that you keep a cool head, follow through with the testing and when the final diagnosis is arrived at, you would be able to address it. Cervical cancer is less likely than a possible polyp given your symptoms.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information should need be.
