I Black Out And Have Fast Heartbeat When Getting Up From Lying Down. Cause?
I m a 17 year old girl, I ve lost 9 kilos over the past few months and have been experiencing a lot of physical weakness. I prefer lying down most of the time and when i get up from sitting down or lying down, I black out for a few seconds and my head feels dizzy and my heart rate increases. I ve gained back about 3 kilos over the past month by forcefully eating more. Can you tell me what s wrong with me?
The feeling of black out for a few seconds and dizziness can be attributed to reduction in blood pressure on sudden getting up from bed owing to peripheral pooling of blood in legs.
The increase in heart rate is a compensatory mechanism of the body to tackle this emergency.
Management includes:
1. Maintain adequate hydration & proper nutrition
2. While getting up from bed, rise gradually to prevent fall in blood pressure.
3. Avoid indulging in aggressive weight loss programs.
4. Get blood pressure & blood sugar levels checked...so that any fluctuations from the normal values can be taken care of.
Wishing you a good health.
Thanks & take care
