Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had my uterus removed due to a large fibroid approx 5 years ago at the age of 38. I found out a few days ago I may have ovarian cancer. I have a multilocular complex cystic lesion measuring 77mm with internal septations and vascularity. There is also some fluid on the pelvis. I have been referred to a oncologist for diagnosis and treatment. I was told by my gyno at the time of the hysterectomy, I don't need to have pap smears and the risk of getting cancer dramatically reduces. Is this true? Is there any correlation between a fibroid and ovarian cancer? What happens with the ovulation discharge after a hysterectomy? Can this be a contributor to ovarian cancer?
