I have been a patient at a pain management practice for over 10 years. I have arthritis throughout my body. I have had both knees replaced, major back surgery with 4 rods and 8 screws in my back, a right hip replacement in 2006, then revised in 2012; finally in December I had the left hip replaced and it has been healing nicely. However, the right hip has been giving me a lot of trouble, including a slow, unsteady gait and pain. This morning a specialist determined that I need surgery to replace the cap on that right hip. That will make my 7th surgery. I am 76 and because of female longevity on my maternal side of the family, I could live into my early 90's, or even later. One aunt died at 101; my nana died at 93; my mother at 91 and my favorite aunt was 88 or 89. Even my 2 maternal uncles lived until well into their 80's. I am a little apprehensive about the surgery but the doctor has an excellent reputation so I am not worried about that but I am concerned about the recovery time and will the surgery provide me with a more normal gait so that I can walk and swim again. What do you think?
