I Have Been Diagnosed With Diverticulitis. The Medication I'm Taking

I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis. The medication I'm taking is Metronidazole. I went to the ER ON Tuesday evening....had a CAT-scan and was diagnosed. I am very nauseated with this medication. Went back to the ER this morning with severe nausea. I was hydrated and labs were done. My white cells are down, but doc says it is a catch-22. I need this to elimate the bacteria. I can't do much of anything. I feel disabled. Is,there another antibiotic that will work, and won't make me continually nauseous. I can't do this for 10 days!!!
