I Have Been Diagnosed With Fibroids And Cyst In The Ovary
Hello, I am a 35 yr old female. I have been diagnosed with fibroids and a 5 cm cyst on the right side of my ovary. I have been to two doctors one of which suggest surgery and the other one has advised that I try to get pregnant as I've never been pregnant. No prescriptions has been advised and I wonder why. I have been having a lot of stomach cramping (both lower and upper), constant constipation, sharp pains down my thighs, lower back pain and sometimes I am unable to sit because of the pain in my rectum. I also have pain on my left side (back to front) but I did two ultrasounds to test my kidneys but they showed up negative (so I was told) so nothing was prescribed but I still have the pain sometimes unbearable. Can you advise?? For the first matter I am hoping that some drug can be prescribed to at least try to melt the cyst because all they gave me was painkillers. I am looking for every other option before surgery. Please help. Thanks, Joanne.
Hello joanne;

If the cyst you have is a simple cyst or a haemorrhagic cyst in course of time it may resolve on its own but if it is a solid cyst then you need to get investigated and then if necessary get operated.If you have not been pregnant till now then you should get investigated to rule out endometrosis as the pain you are describing can be due to it.Better consult a Gynaecologist for further investigations and if the doctor suggests get a diagnostic Laparoscopy done.The constipation you have can be due to food habits;lifestyle so drink enough water;have food rich in fibers like green leafy vegies;fruits.The pain that you have on left side coming from back to front is probably due to kidneys because you probably take less water which should settle after increasing the intake.
Thanks
The constipation, cramps and pain are due to the fibroids. Pregnancy can increase the size of the fibroids and complicate it's management. The treatment of fibroids depend on their position, size and the symptoms that they are causing. You need to consult a Gynecologist regarding using any medications like Danazol or going for surgery. As for the cyst, a simple cyst in the ovary generally does not cause any symptoms. But the fibroids need management. Once the fibroid management is done, it would be ideal for you to plan a pregnancy.
