Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been treated for chronic pain for over 20 years. I have been on everything from hydrocodone to methadone. Codeine & morphine seem to have little to no effect. However, I was put on bupornephrine some years back & found it extremely helpful. Instead of needing more over time, I actually needed less. I also found that the emotional numbing side effect was minimal compared to the other drugs. The only time I have ever noticeably had any withdrawals was with methadone. I have a tendency to take myself off these drugs after a few months because I keep hoping I won't need to go back on them. I am extremely difficult to sedate & have always been that way. Even before taking pain meds regularly. I now have a new Dr (due to insurance) & we need to address the medication issue. He is hesitant to put me back on Norco because of rebound pain. I am currently on nothing & quality of life is 20%. Without meds I am unable to work & do many of the household duties. Does my experience sound normal? And would it make sense to push for bupornephrine? Thanks!
