I Have Been Watching A Sore Red Spot On The

I have been watching a sore red spot on the top of my big toes, behind cuticle (both, one definitely more than the other). I had run several miles with a friend on a whim, not something I had trained for, in street shoes, so I assumed I had bruised them. This was in late Feb. Late May, there was still some red and swelling and I noted the nail beginning to separate from the nail bed but again assumed from running trauma. Then, my toddler stepped on my toe and I noticed pus came out from swollen area. I questioned infection, so began treating toes with Tea Tree Oil and keeping shoes and socks off as much as possible. Now, no pain or swelling, but still red a little in a band across my toe, but now I noted tonight that the cuticle is separating from the nail. Hoping this is just part of the healing from swelling reduction and effect from injury or infection? It has not really bothered me much, more so because I see it than because it hurts. I do wonder if I will lose the nail. No discoloration and I can still see the white half moon shape and where nail is still attached it is pink. However, about half of the nail is separated.

I am not one to run to the doctor unless necessary due to high deductible full cost up front for myself. Is this something I should keep waiting out and letting time remedy in addition to continuing oil treatment and keeping the area clean and accessible to air? Or, do I really need to see my GP?
