what you probably are describing is GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disorder) which can induce, occasional
cough which can sometimes become persistant, and present as nocturnal cough.
Usually this cough subsides over time, but if certain preexisting conditions like obesity, inactive lifestyle
smoking, alcohol intake can increase the problem.
first of all - try ANTACIDS (
mucaine gel or
gelusil) available OTC for symptom relief, along with LIFESTYLE CHANGES [daily physical workouts (brisk walk for 30 min daily), and post meals - maintaining a upright position for 30min-1 hr, so that the food ingested enters the lower food pipe, instead of remaining in the stomach].
if still not helping, then OTC -
ranitidine or Omez, taken for a week would definitely help.
if u have any associated medical conditions, it is always advisable to get physically examined, and then start the medications.
