Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had seizures for about 15 years. I have complex partial and gran mal seizures. I have been on lamictal for 15 years, because of insurance plans changing I had to get on generic. Within a few weeks I started having break thru seizures, this started one year ago. After a trip to er they added 900 mg of Keppra, (seemed like a lot so fast). The Keppra made me have crazy behavior and very depressed. They started to ween me off after I tried it for 4 weeks saying I felt suicidal. Then they drastically stopped it. Within 48 hours I went into status epilepticus and ended up in icu for a week on a phenobarbital drip. I woke up blind, couldnt move or talk. Within a few weeks I slowly improved. I have not been seizure free since then. Been in hospital on several occasions because a simple Ativan dose didn't help. I went to an epilepsy monitoring unit for a week and all we learned was yes I have epilepsy and am not a surgery candidate. Since the icu visit my memory is horrible and I am severely depressed and have horrible dreams nightly. Now Nuerology is passing me off to behavior health. I never had these issues prior to Keppra and icu. The gran mals are taking a toll on my body and having injuries. Mentally and physically drained. My lamictal level is now 40% higher than ever and now they want me to get on Klonopin. Scared after I read the side affects. Any suggestions.. Or just confirm my guess that I may have permanent damage from status epilepticus.
