I Have Increasingly Frequent Foot Pain In Both Feet. They

I have increasingly frequent foot pain in both feet. They are red and extremely sensitive and often start cramping when I am walking for anything over a few minutes. My shoes are comfortable. I went to a podiatrist today and he said it was not peripheral neuropathy (I do not have diabetes), since I could feel where he touched my feet and toes with a tool. But he did not say what it is, so I have no idea how to treat it. Any suggestions?
