I Have Rheumatoid Arthritis. My Hands Have Been Distorted More

I have rheumatoid arthritis. My hands have been distorted more and more over the past year. I had to do some chopping over the weekend and now I am unable to lift my right pinkie. My RA doctor says to put heat on it for 15 minutes and if that doesn't work she's going to prescribe a strong dose of steroids. However, she just gave me a steroid shot (solu-medrol) last Wednesday. I think it has more to do with a tendon since I can feel mild pain going up my wrist when I try to move it. Does her treatment sound correct? Or should I head to a hand surgeon for more evaluation?
