I Just Got Bit By What Felt Like A Spider

I just got bit by what felt like a spider and of course I panicked and I don't know what type it was or where it went . I didn't see it and then I laid my hand on the top of a wooden gate to close it and it bite me. the top of my hand is red and a sharp pain is travelling up my fingers what should i doi? is the ER necessary. and if so when?
