Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I punched a wall almost 3 weeks ago and my hand is still swollen. I can bend my fingers a little bit and hurts to even attempt to straighten it. I can straighten every finger though except for the middle one. When I lay my hand flat on a surface I can lift every finger but my middle one gives me the most problems. I can get it slightly up but it hurts. Where I feel the most pain is around the middle knuckle area. I had X-rays on Monday and Came back negative for broken bones. I've been icing it all week and it may have went down a little but not enough for me to really notice. The pain has gotten a little better but still uncomfortable. Is this normal going on 3 weeks? I've read online it can take 7-10 weeks to heal. I have just started a contrast bath for my hand today for the 2nd time. Should I worry or just play the waiting game? I still can't write with a pen. Should I wait it out a bit longer or go back to the hospital? Any advice for me? I just can't afford these hospital trips so hopefully you can shed some light as to what I should do. Oh and I was also prescribed oxycodon for pain and doxycycline to bring down the swelling and if it was infected. Thank you so much. This is my 4th day on the meds. Thank you so much for taking your time to help me
