I Quit Smoking And Now Have Severe Feet Edema, Restless Leg Syndrome, Tingling In Lips And Numbness In Hand
I quit smoking after 41 years. Also quit all caffeine and sugar. Quit 2 weeks ago. Now having severe feet and ankle edema. While sleeping at night, feeling like air is being cut off and I jerk awake. Severe restless leg syndrome at night and feet burning. Tingling in lips, numbness to left hand and arm. Numbness and tingling in left toes. Very little mucus being coughed up. I felt more energetic and alert as a smoker than non smoker. Have spent most of the past 2 weeks asleep and waking exhausted. What is going on?
It is definitely possible that your symptoms are related to nicotine withdrawal.
Though they are disturbing to you now, they generally only lasts 2 to 3 weeks. Some of the common symptoms are irritation, anxiety, fatigue, altered mood, increased weight, abnormal sensations.
There are a lot of benefits from discontinuation of smoking- decreased risk of lung disease, decreased risk of heart disease and stroke, decreased risk of lung cancer and other cancers.
It can be difficult to stop smoking on your own, you may want to ask your doctor about nicotine replacement or any groups that may help.
I hope this helps
