Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I received a dog bit a few weeks ago. My employee Clinic physician prescribed amoxicillin. I took it twice a day for ten days. I finished the medication Sunday, August 14th. The infection did not appear totally gone. I contacted the clinic again on the 18th. They're first appointment was today. The physician looked over my finger today. He prescribed Metronidazol 500mg. The clinic is aware that I am allergic to sulfa drugs. After taking the first dose I looked up information on Metronidazol. It says not to take if one has seizures. I had seizures as a child, from 6 weeks on. The last one was when I was 8, 1978. My last normal EEG was in 1982. The doctors never uncovered why I had seizures. I read that seizure patients should not take Metronidozal. I have not been on Dilantin since 1981. Do I need to be concerned? Should I refrain from taking additional doses of Metronidazol?
