I Started Having Chest Congestion About 2 Weeks Ago With

I started having chest congestion about 2 weeks ago with a lot of coughing, but no sore throat. I could feel the phlegm lightly covering the bottom of my throat/esophogus??, but I couldn't quite cough anything up. I had no congestion at all in my sinuses. After 2 weeks I finally started coughing most of the phlegm out. Some was the usual green blob of goo, but some was more like sticky yellow pudding but in a 4 inch string like a straw. Then the congestion moved to my sinuses, and it felt like a clog at the throat/sinus interface (eustation tube?), but no runny nose or upper sinus symptoms. I blew a lot of thick snot out my nostrils but also hocked large loogies from my throat. Then my nose started to run, but no real cold symptoms. Now yesterday afternoon I got really heavy-headed sinus headache with a few wet sneezes. I was walking slowly outside just after dusk in pleasant high-60's temp., but I was sweating profusely with my t-shirt wringing wet. Later I was very nauseated and started heavily dry-heaving (maybe nothing in stomach). I was able to get down some buttered-toast and jello and was able to sleep. This morning I haven't had the upper sinus symptoms, just some phlegm and I can always sense a small blob down my throat that has made a home. This whole episode has lasted almost 4 weeks. Prognosis please. Is it accute brochitis? One more clue, I have had some GERD-like symptoms off and on for several years. I am 61. Is some of the congestion a response to protect the bottom of my esophogus from the reflux? Please excuse the spelling and thank you for your response.
