I Starting Experiencing Tinnitus A Few Weeks Ago. I Went

I starting experiencing Tinnitus a few weeks ago. I went to ear specialist who examined and tested my hearing and I have good results, pressure, hair cells etc but the ringing is bad and they suggest it will lead to hearing loss but don't know why I have it. I asked to be put on steroids to see if it helps. First they told me it should be 14 days with a tapper but then they called me back and said 6 days because the insurance won't pay for 14 days..... I don't understand that response at all, what should I do? start with six days ... but its a tapering thing so I don't know if I should fight them and ask why my insurance company is dictating "my best course" of treatment. I have also read on line that the best chance of steroids helping needs to be done as soon as possible after onset, but it seems like they just want me to wait around until I start having more problems or just can't take it any more? Any advice?
