I Sustained A Subtle Tibia Plateau Fracture To My Knee/shin

I sustained a subtle tibia Plateau fracture to my knee/shin bone, 7 weeks ago, March 12th. Confirmed with MRI. The orthopedic surgeon did not cast it or put it in any kind of immobilizer. He told me I just needed to keep my leg out as straight n flat as possible so the bone would heal in the correct position, over the next 8 weeks. My question is, should it have been placed in a splint or cast, and my other question is, in the last week and a half, when I stand up on my crutches, there is blood pooling down into my foot and turning it purple. Is this normal?
